The JP ES 005 seals the Panigale 959's secondary air ports with a solid cover, removing one of the few genuinely perishable parts bolted to a cylinder head.

The Underslung Exhaust
European models carried a side-exit silencer that divided opinion completely, and a great many owners changed it within weeks of collection.
Reversible
The standard housing refits on its own fasteners with no replacement seals required, so the engine returns to specification whenever it needs to.
Torque Into Aluminium
The fasteners thread into the head and Ducati specifies a figure for good reason. Guessing at it turns a twenty-minute job into a thread repair.
An Older Head, Careful Threads
On a machine past a decade the threads have been undisturbed for years. Working slowly is worth the extra minutes it costs.
On a V-Twin
The two heads sit at ninety degrees, which means the rear one is considerably harder to reach. Plan the evening around that rather than around the part.
What Is Actually Gained
One fewer perishable component, a tidier engine and a port that cannot admit anything. No power, no response and no consumption change.
An Inspection Would Find Nothing
Original fastener positions, original torque and an unmarked sealing face. The exchange leaves no evidence beyond the cover itself, and the standard housing refits in twenty minutes with no replacement seals required whenever the motorcycle needs to be back at specification.
Checking the Old Reeds
Once the housing is off, holding it up to a light shows whether the reeds still sit flat against their seats. It costs nothing and it settles the question of whether this was a repair or a preference, which is worth knowing before the parts go into a box.
