The JP ES 041 seals the Diavel 1260 S's secondary air ports with a solid cover, removing one of the few genuinely perishable parts bolted to a cylinder head.

Cornering ABS and DVT
The full electronics package with variable valve timing behind it, which makes an enormous motorcycle considerably easier to ride quickly than it looks.

The Thermal Argument
A moulded component bolted to a cylinder head sees a temperature range nothing else on the motorcycle experiences. Aluminium is indifferent to it.

An Older Head Deserves Care
On a motorcycle past a decade the threads have been undisturbed for a long time. Working slowly and cleanly is cheaper than the alternative.
The Half It Does Not Do
The dashboard warning comes from the solenoid circuit, which is a separate component in a separate place. Fitting the cover alone leaves the lamp exactly where it was, and that surprises a fair number of owners every year. The two halves are sold separately precisely because some owners need only one of them.
What the Ports Look Like Underneath
Two small drillings into the exhaust side of the head, machined flat around their edges so a seal can work. There is nothing delicate about them and nothing that needs protecting, but they should be wiped clean before the cover goes on, because a piece of grit under an O-ring is the one way this job leaks.
A Cruiser With a Superbike Engine
The Testastretta in this chassis spends more of its life at low revs and part throttle than the same engine does in a Panigale, which is exactly the operating range where the secondary air system is most active. The housings on these machines therefore see more cycles than the mileage alone would suggest.
