The Quiet Alternative
It does everything a large adventure bike does on tarmac, faster and with better weather protection, and almost nobody talks about it.
Replaced by the 1100 SX
Kawasaki enlarged the engine for 2025, which makes the 1000 SX an unusually good used purchase for anybody covering distance.
No Service Interval
Nothing in Kawasaki's schedule inspects or replaces the charcoal. It works for some years and then quietly stops, with no warning of any kind.
Photograph the Routing
Two minutes with a camera before anything is disturbed makes the eventual refit straightforward, because the hose paths are impossible to reconstruct from memory.
The Smell in the Garage
A persistent fuel odour around a parked motorcycle is frequently a split vapour line rather than anything in the fuel delivery system, and it is almost always investigated in the wrong order.
Label the Hoses
Write on each pipe before it is pulled off. Reassembly months later otherwise becomes an exercise in guesswork, and a strip of tape is cheaper than that afternoon.
A Bigger Tank, More Vapour
The touring models produce proportionally more for a canister that has not grown to match, which is why saturation arrives sooner on those bikes.
Nothing Structural Comes Off
The bracket holds the vessel and nothing else. No part of the frame, the subframe or the fuel delivery is affected, and the empty mounting holes are the only trace left behind.
The Weight Is Not the Point
A kilogram and a half changes nothing about how the motorcycle rides. The space, the access and the removal of a component that fails without warning are the actual reasons anybody does this, and they are reason enough.
