DescriptionThe whole story▼
Club racing is decided in the last two laps, when the tyres have gone off, the rider is tired and everybody is defending the inside line into the slow corners. A Ducati Panigale 899 of 2014 or 2015 is a common sight on those grids, quick enough to be interesting and cheap enough to risk. Accossato's front pad for the machine sits on the AGPA177 carrier, and this article carries the EV2 racing material, which the Italian company puts forward as a top compound for competition.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Ducati Panigale 899, 2014 and 2015
- AGPA177EV2: the AGPA177 carrier in the EV2 racing material
- Accossato describes it as a top compound for competition
- Aimed at club races and timed practice, not at the daily ride
- Two pads in the box, one caliper's set
- The front wheel is gripped from both sides, so order two boxes
- ST, EV1 and ZXC sit on the same carrier for other uses
- No German ABE held; sold for racing and closed circuits
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato aims this compound squarely at competition and leaves the softer claims to the other materials in the range. A racer reads that as a pad expected to hold its character deep into a race distance, when the discs have had no chance to shed heat and the rider has stopped thinking about anything except the next marker. Underneath the friction layer the article uses the ordinary AGPA177 carrier, identical to the version supplied with the road-biased materials, so a team can switch compounds between practice and the race without any change to how the part sits in the caliper.
The Last Two Laps of a Club Race
Everything that decides a result happens when the machine is at its worst. The front tyre has given up its edge grip, the fuel load has gone, and the rider is braking later than in practice because someone is alongside. On an 899 that means using the front hard from a lower speed than a big superbike needs, repeatedly, into corners that are approached in second gear. The lever position at that point in a race is information: if it is coming further back than it did on lap three, the rider adjusts rather than hopes.
Preparation covers most of the risk. Bleed the system before a meeting, because fluid that has taken on moisture over a winter will show itself on precisely the lap that matters. Fit pads with enough material for the whole weekend rather than nursing a set through one more race. Bed a new set in during a practice session with firm, progressive applications and a cooling lap afterwards. And once the Panigale 899 is back in the paddock, let it stand rather than parking with the lever tied to the bar while the discs are still hot.
Fitment and Compatibility
This entry applies to the front wheel of the Panigale 899 for 2014 and 2015 exactly as Accossato records it. Nothing is claimed for the later machines in the range, which appear under their own numbers. The rear wheel of the 899 takes the AGPA42 across the identical pair of seasons, and the disc range includes the DK053 and the DKS035 for this model. Because a box holds the set for a single caliper, a machine going out on Saturday morning with fresh pads at the front has used two of them.
Road Approval
Our documentation for the AGPA177EV2 contains no German ABE and no certificate from a testing authority. We sell it as a competition part for closed circuits, which is where the compound is meant to be used.
Scope of Delivery
One box, two AGPA177 pads in the EV2 material, enough for a single front caliper on the Panigale 899. Both calipers together take two boxes.
