DescriptionThe whole story▼
TM Racing builds its motorcycles in Pesaro, on Italy's Adriatic coast, in far smaller numbers than the big manufacturers, and the MX 450 four-stroke is its machine for the premier motocross class. On dry, hard-packed tracks a 450 like this asks a great deal of the rider's right hand, because a front tyre that locks on polished ground washes out in an instant. Accossato's B8206 is a folding CNC brake lever for the TM Racing MX 450 four-stroke from 2003 to 2019, milled from Ergal 7075 in Italy, with a blade hinged so that it can swing forward if the bike falls.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the TM Racing MX 450 four-stroke, 2003 to 2019
- Listed for the earlier MX 450 F up to 2009 and for the bikes of 2010 to 2019
- Fits the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Short blade that Accossato draws for three fingers
- Blade hinged to its base so it can fold forward rather than snap
- Milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy
- Blade in black, blue, gold or red on a dark base
- No German ABE on record; for motocross and off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
Two Italian specialists meet in this part: TM builds the bike on the Adriatic, and Accossato, based in Villastellone near Turin, makes the lever. The B8206 starts as a solid piece of Ergal 7075, the high-strength aluminium alloy Accossato uses because it wants its levers strong, light and reliable, and CNC cutters shape it from there. The finished lever has two sections. A dark base sits on the pivot of the master cylinder; the blade, in black, blue, gold or red, hangs from it on a joint. Because this is the brake side, the blade is kept short and sized for three fingers.
Hard-Pack and a Light Touch
By midsummer many motocross tracks set almost like concrete. The soil dries out, the track crew's grading leaves a smooth, shiny surface, and the braking zones in front of the tight turns become polished and slick. On a 450 the difficulty is speed: the MX 450 arrives at those corners quickly, and the front tyre has very little to bite into. Squeeze the lever as hard as you would in soft loam and the wheel stops turning, the front pushes, and the bike folds under you before a boot can reach the ground. Riders who are quick on hard-pack brake a little earlier, in a straight line, building the pressure gradually instead of grabbing, and let go of the lever before they lean the bike in.
Getting it wrong usually ends in a low fall: a front-end slide that drops the bike onto its right side at corner-entry speed. The brake lever is then dragged across the hard surface, exactly the sort of blow that bends a solid lever or snaps off its end. The B8206 has its joint for that moment; there is a chance the blade swings forward instead and can be pushed back into place before you remount. It will not always work out that way, and a heavy crash can still break it, but a front brake that is still there on the next lap is what lets you finish the moto rather than pull into the pits.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list divides the TM Racing MX 450 four-stroke into two groups, the MX 450 F up to 2009 and the bikes of 2010 to 2019, and the B8206 appears in both; here it is offered for the model years 2003 to 2019. It fits the original front brake master cylinder. For the clutch side, the folding C7283 is listed only from 2010 to 2019, so an earlier MX 450 can be fitted on the brake side alone. Gold is made only for this brake lever and orange only for the clutch lever, while black, blue and red exist for both.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8206. The MX 450 is a competition motocross machine, and the lever is sold for the track and off-road racing only.
