The racing panel is much the same article wherever it appears. What changes is what it is measured against — and here the comparison is at its steepest. The standard element for an SV 650 is a modest part, so the racing version of it costs a little over two and a half times as much here, where the same comparison on Suzuki's litre-class sports bikes comes out closer to twice. The SV 650 also asks less of an air filter than any of them. Both halves point the same way, and both are worth weighing before ordering the Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 PM117S F1-85.
Key Features
- Racing specification of the P08 range: dry polyester filtering at 85 microns, never oiled
- Rated flow of 15,000 litres per square metre per second against 5,050 for the standard P08
- Around twice the media area of a typical performance element
- Straight exchange in the series airbox — nothing cut, nothing rerouted, no remap
- Blown clean with compressed air and used again, season after season
- Two years of Sprint Filter cover from the purchase date
The multiple is largest where the demand is smallest
Extra capacity is only drawn on at wide-open throttle high in the rev range. A middleweight twin reaches that state less often than a litre four, holds it for less time, and asks for less air while it is there. So the SV 650 is at the same time the machine on which this element carries its largest premium over the standard part and the one with the least to spend it on. That is no argument against the medium, which does exactly what its data sheet says — only about which motorcycle it was drawn for.
What the wider weave gives up
The flow comes from opening the aperture from 80 microns to 85, and that aperture is open on every ride. Sprint Filter's own figures put the F1-85 at 95.22 per cent retention of 100-micron test particles and the P08 at 93.13, and four-layer oiled cotton at 76.42 — all coarse measurements, silent on the fine fraction that reaches the oil. The exchange is fair in one case: an SV 650 used on circuit and serviced by running hours rather than by the odometer. Ridden on the road, the standard P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 litres is the better-argued part, and dust argues for finer media still — P037 at 37 microns and 4,500 litres, P14 at 14 and 1,800, T12 at 7 and 560. Whatever goes in, a drop-in element does not make a standard SV 650 noticeably stronger. It keeps the intake share of that restriction low and steady, on a part that is cleaned rather than replaced.
Care and cleaning
Hold an air line to the clean face of the PM117S F1-85 and blow outwards, so the dirt leaves by the side it entered. Where a season has left more than air will move, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it fully in moving air, never with heat and never over a flame, and refit it dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki SV 650 of 2016 to 2026, seated in the unmodified airbox. This racing element is listed for that machine alone; see the Fitment tab.
