DescriptionThe whole story▼
Built exclusively for professional motorsport, the K-Tech KTR-4 fork with Independent Damping System (IDS) delivers a level of suspension control that production forks simply cannot match. Part number 130-017-770, this 43 mm cartridge fork is constructed from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminium throughout and fitted with DLC-coated, super-finished inner tubes — engineering choices that place safety and repeatability at the very heart of its design. Installation must be carried out by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre to ensure maximum safety and performance, and the fork is approved for track use only.
Key Features
- Independent Damping System (IDS) separates compression and rebound circuits into discrete legs, allowing precise, interference-free adjustment of each damping characteristic independently.
- 30-click compression adjustment and 30-click rebound adjustment give a total of 900 distinct damping combinations for exact setup to circuit and rider preference.
- 18 mm of spring preload adjustment accommodates a wide range of rider weights and corner-entry styles without replacing components.
- Outer tubes and axle clamps machined from 7075-T6 aluminium — the same alloy used in aerospace structures — for maximum stiffness and minimum unsprung weight.
- DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coated, super-finished inner tubes reduce friction to a minimum, improving small-bump sensitivity and consistent damping response lap after lap.
- Compatible with brake discs from 290 mm to 320 mm diameter using 108 mm centre-mount calipers, covering the majority of race-specification caliper configurations.
Engineering and Construction
The KTR-4 IDS is the result of K-Tech's extensive experience supplying suspension to World Superbike and British Superbike teams. The Independent Damping System places compression damping in one fork leg and rebound damping in the other, eliminating the cross-talk inherent in conventional cartridge designs. Each circuit can be tuned in isolation, so a change to compression settings produces a pure compression response with no unintended effect on rebound behaviour. This makes chassis setup faster, more repeatable and more predictable under race conditions.
The 7075-T6 aluminium outer tubes and axle clamps resist the enormous bending loads generated under hard braking without flexing, translating directly into steering accuracy at corner entry. The DLC coating on the 43 mm inner tubes is harder than conventional chrome plating and dramatically reduces stiction, so the fork tracks surface irregularities at any speed without the binding sensation that can mask front-end feedback.
Setup and Adjustment
The KTR-4 IDS ships with three pairs of springs covering different spring rates, so the correct rate for a given rider and circuit can be selected before the fork is fitted. The 18 mm preload range then provides fine-tuning of static sag without exchanging springs. The 30-click compression and 30-click rebound adjusters use a positive detent mechanism for reliable, repeatable click-by-click changes even when made in the pit lane between sessions. All necessary adjustment tools are included in the delivery.
Important Safety Notes
Fitment of the K-Tech KTR-4 IDS fork requires dedicated aftermarket triple clamps, handlebars and axle inserts appropriate to the recipient motorcycle. These components are not included and must be sourced separately. Installation must be performed exclusively by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre. This fork is approved for track use only and must not be used on public roads.
Fitment and Compatibility
The KTR-4 IDS fork in this configuration (part number 130-017-770, 770 mm length) is a universal-fitment track component designed to suit a wide range of race and track-day motorcycles across multiple manufacturers. Compatible applications include, but are not limited to, models from Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha where the appropriate triple clamps and axle inserts are used. Consult K-Tech or Inter-Pace directly to confirm the correct clamp and insert combination for your specific make, model and year.
