A Track Day Regular
More Super Dukes see circuits than the marketing suggests. Preparation always starts with lights, mirrors, plate and stand, and the switch goes with the last of those.
The Loop
Sidestand, clutch and gear position form one chain in KTM's wiring. Break it and the engine stops in gear regardless of everything else.
Closing It Correctly
This unit presents the state the controller expects. A bridged terminal gives a different wrong answer and produces its own warning.
A Hundred and Eighty Horsepower, No Fairing
The Super Duke R has defined the naked class for a decade by refusing to be sensible about any part of the specification.
Ten Model Years Under One Number
KTM redrew the frame and the bodywork twice without changing the sidestand wiring, which is why a single part covers the whole run.
Where the Switch Suffers
Low on the left, in the spray from the front wheel, cleaned with a pressure lance after every session. It is a short-lived component.
Five Minutes
One connector near the swingarm pivot, reached without removing anything else.
Nothing Cut
KTM's own plug and no splices. The loom stays exactly as the factory built it.
Reversible
The standard switch refits with the stand whenever the bike returns to the road.
Not for a Registered Bike
If the stand is still fitted the loop should be connected. There is no upside to removing it.
Two Frames, One Idea
KTM redrew the chassis in 2020 chasing feedback rather than stiffness, and the result was a motorcycle that told the rider considerably more. The engine and the peripheral wiring carried over, which is why one part spans both generations.
