The JP ES 022 is the passive answer to the Multistrada 1200 S's side stand circuit: nothing powered, nothing configured and nothing that can behave differently in the wet.

Two Hundred and Thirty-Five Kilograms
Wet, a little above the standard bike because of the suspension hardware. It vanishes above walking pace and is very present below it.
Intermittent First
A dying switch cuts the engine at a junction, behaves perfectly in the workshop and repeats a fortnight later. The intermittency is what makes it unpleasant.
Mud Packs It Solid
On a Multistrada or a Desert X ridden off tarmac the mechanism fills, and a filled switch reports a deployed stand entirely on its own.
What the Manual Omits
Ducati documents the switch as a replaceable part and says nothing about removing the stand entirely. The engine stops in gear, which is the intended behaviour.
Two Reasons, One Answer
Either the stand has gone or the switch has failed. Both produce identical symptoms and both are resolved in exactly the same way.
The Failure Pattern
Intermittent in the wet, fine in the workshop, worse each month. By the time the fault is consistent the switch has usually been failing for a season, and the owner has lost several weekends to it.
No Software Involved
Nothing is flashed, adapted or written to any controller. The part works entirely through the state it presents at the connector, which is why it needs no setup and behaves identically on the first ride and the hundredth.
Diagnosing Before Deleting
A stand switch that has failed produces exactly the behaviour a missing one does, so it is worth knowing which situation applies. On a road machine the correct answer is usually a new switch; on a track machine the switch was coming off anyway and the eliminator is the shorter route.
