The race block carries exactly what the street one does in a different sequence. It is a change made for people who use the same control repeatedly rather than occasionally.
Where a Thumb Arrives
Braking hard, the hand grips and the thumb reaches the nearest end of the column first. Building the layout around that costs nothing and removes a small distraction from every lap.
Adjusted on the Move
An 899 at a track day gets its traction level changed as the tyre goes off, session after session. Those inputs all pass through this block.
The Wash Bay Ends Things
Hot pressure washing after every outing, not mileage. A machined body with sealed elements removes the joint that the jet was finding on the moulded original.
Standard Returns in Twenty Minutes
Nothing is spliced, so the original block can go back on before a sale. On a bike that has seen circuits, that is worth doing.
The Track Day Panigale
A hundred and forty-eight horsepower and a chassis that does not require constant negotiation. A great many 899s ended up at circuits because they are the easier of the pair to use.
A Twin-Sided Swingarm
Ducati fitted a conventional arm to save cost, and it also saved weight and marginally improved the geometry. The company never mentioned that second part.
Underseat Silencers
The 899 kept the exhausts the 959 later lost to Euro 4. It is a large part of why the smaller Panigale looks better than its successor.
Three Finishes
Black, red and titanium. On a circuit bike the finish is chosen for how it survives being cleaned and handled rather than for appearance.
