APRC's First Motorcycle
Traction, wheelie and launch control with a quickshifter, all adjustable while moving, arrived on this bike in 2011. Nothing else in the naked class carried anything comparable and most superbikes did not either.
Why the Order Changes
The race block keeps every function and moves the blue button to the bottom of the column. Riders who adjust traction lap after lap stop looking for it, which is the entire justification for a different layout.
Fixed Trumpets, Fatter Middle
Aprilia gave the first Tuono fixed intake lengths and softer camshafts where the RSV4 had variable ones. Power fell from 180 to 167 hp and the engine became far more useful below ten thousand.
A Decade and a Half of Contacts
These bikes have been through fourteen winters. Moulded switchgear reaches a stage where one function answers intermittently, and Aprilia's remedy has always been a complete assembly rather than a single contact.
The Superbike's Chassis
The frame is the RSV4's, adjustable at the headstock, the engine mounts and the swingarm pivot. Aprilia fitted bars and a nose fairing and left the rest, which is why the bike still holds a line the way it does.
Four Anodised Colours
Black, blue, red and titanium. On a motorcycle of this age the anodised finish will outlast whatever is left of the printed legends on the original block by a wide margin.
Sealed Inside
Military-specification elements enclosed in the milled body. Water reaching a contact and sitting there is what ends switchgear, and there is no cover joint here for it to work past.
Unchanged Plug
Aprilia used the same connector across this generation, so the unit is pre-wired and fits directly. Nothing is cut and the swap can be undone as easily as it was made.
