Two Hundred and Thirty-Eight Kilograms
Wet, which is heavy for a superbike and beside the point entirely. The H2 has never been about lap times.
Built by Several Divisions
Kawasaki Heavy Industries brought in its aerospace and gas turbine engineers for the supercharger. Very few motorcycles have that kind of provenance.
Not the Electrical Half
The controller monitors its solenoid regardless of what is bolted to the head, so the circuit still needs its own eliminator to keep the panel clear.
What Leaves the Engine
Four items leave the motorcycle: the reed box, the line running forward to the intake, the clips along it and the fasteners underneath. What remains is a cylinder head with a flat cover on it.
The Hose Port Stays Open
Removing the housing leaves an opening at the airbox unless that end is closed too, and unfiltered air into an intake is worse than the system ever was.
What Is Gained
One fewer perishable component, a tidier top end and an exhaust port that cannot admit anything. No power, no throttle response and no consumption change.
What a Cracked Reed Does
It stops sealing in one direction, letting exhaust gas travel back towards the airbox. The residue coats the element and is usually found while chasing something else.
The Complete Picture
Airbox, hose, reed assembly and cylinder head port. The cover closes the last of those and the airbox end needs its own answer.
A Supercharger and a Test Cycle
Getting forced induction through European emissions testing required Kawasaki to fit everything the regulations allow. The H2 therefore carries a comprehensive secondary air arrangement despite being anything but an ordinary motorcycle.
