Enough for a real three hundred and fifty kilometres, which is what makes the Ninja 1000 SX usable as a genuine tourer.
Original Fastener Positions
The cover picks up the threads the housing used, at the figures Kawasaki specifies for them. No hole is opened out and no thread in the head is touched.
Why Improvised Blanks Fail
A bolt and washer or a smear of epoxy holds for a while. Neither survives a season of heat cycling, and the epoxy has to be chiselled off a cylinder head afterwards.
Not an Engine Job
Nothing is opened, nothing is drained and nothing internal is disturbed. It is an external component on an external face.
An Older Head, Careful Threads
On a machine past a decade the threads have been undisturbed for a long time. Working slowly and cleanly is worth the extra few minutes it costs.
A Flat Face Underneath
The head is machined where the housing sits, which is why an O-ring seals against it without any compound at all.
A Repair as Much as a Deletion
On any Kawasaki past its first decade this is a component with limited remaining life. Aluminium removes a job that was coming.
Distance and Speed Together
Owners of these cover serious mileage and still expect superbike performance when the road opens up. That combination means the motorcycles see both long motorway sessions and hard riding, which works the emissions hardware in different ways.
Cruise Control as Standard
Fitted from the 2020 update along with a colour screen and a quickshifter. Kawasaki modernised the model properly rather than adding features one at a time.
