The Pre-2021 Bike
This cover fits the S1000R before the redesign. BMW changed the cylinder head arrangement with the new engine and the later bikes need a different part.
What It Replaces
The reed housing bolted to the head, along with the hose running to it from the airbox. It is the mechanical half of the system.
Why Aluminium
A moulding at cylinder head temperature has a finite life, and a turned cover simply does not have anything inside it that can fail.
The First Generation Naked
BMW detuned the RR engine, fitted wide bars and left the chassis alone. It was the sensible S1000 and it was quicker than most things it was compared with.
Two Hundred and Seven Kilograms
Wet, which was heavy for a naked bike and stopped mattering the moment the throttle was opened. The first S1000R was never subtle.

Depreciation has made these an inexpensive route onto a circuit, and preparation follows the same list every time.
Original Fastener Positions
BMW's own spacing and torque figures. The head is not drilled, tapped or modified in any way an inspection would find.
Do the Airbox As Well
The hose port stays open unless the airbox plug is fitted, and an open airbox undoes most of the benefit.
Reversible
The standard housing refits on its own fasteners with no new seals required.
Homologation
Removing emissions equipment ends road legality where the system is part of the approval.
The Sensible S1000
Nobody bought the naked version to be sensible, and it turned out to be the one most owners rode most often. Wide bars, a detuned four and no fairing is a combination that suits a real road better than a superbike does.
