The JP KS KA004 replaces the ZX-6R's ignition block with a sealed push button, which takes the lock, the key and about three hundred and fifty grams off the top yoke.

The 636
Kawasaki refused to build a 599 cc supersport and gave the class an extra thirty-seven cubic centimetres instead. It made the bike better on roads and complicated its racing life.
No Key at All
The bike is armed and killed by a button rather than by turning something. There is nothing to lose in a paddock and nothing to carry in a set of leathers.
Why Racing Machines Lose It
A bike that lives in a van and a garage has nothing to be stolen from and nobody waiting to turn a key. The lock is mass and complication.
The Transponder Ring
On bikes with an immobiliser the aerial sits around the barrel. Remove the block and the starting circuit loses it, which needs solving separately.
What Plugs Into What
The motorcycle's own ignition connector goes into the new body unchanged. No wire is stripped, joined or extended anywhere.
Two Fasteners
That is usually all that holds the block to the yoke. The care goes into the connector rather than into the mechanics.
Scrutineering
Series differ on stop controls. A sealed button in the standard position satisfies most, but the rulebook is the only authority worth consulting.
Machining and Anodising
Cut from solid, then the finish grown into the surface. Neither step is necessary for a switch and both are why this one lasts a decade.
An Evening's Work at Most
Twenty minutes at the yoke plus whatever it takes to reach the loom. On some models the connector is visible as soon as the block lifts away.
Keeping the Motorcycle Reversible
Nothing is cut, drilled or soldered. The standard block refits on its own fasteners with its own connector in about the time it took to remove. Keep the barrel and its key together in a labelled bag, because a barrel without a key is worth nothing.
