A Short Production Run
Ducati built the 1299 for three model years before the V4 replaced it. That brevity is part of why the model is now sought after.
What the Electronic Damper Does
It varies its resistance with road speed, staying light for low-speed manoeuvring and firming up as the front wheel gets busy. A solenoid inside the unit does the varying and the controller does the deciding.
Potted Body
The connector sits behind the front fairing where water finds its way in eventually. Everything electrical inside the eliminator is sealed as a unit rather than crimped.
Access
The damper sits above the top yoke or alongside the headstock depending on the model, and reaching its connector generally means one fairing panel rather than the whole front end.
One Circuit Only
The suspension, the brakes and the engine electronics are all separate systems. Answering the damper circuit affects none of them.
Nothing Is Cut
The harness is untouched, which is what makes the change reversible in minutes rather than being a wiring repair somebody has to undo later.
Sealed Throughout
Everything electrical inside is potted against water and vibration, because the area behind a fairing is considerably wetter than owners tend to assume.
Clearing the History
New faults stop being written the moment the eliminator is fitted, but anything already logged stays until it is cleared. A diagnostic tool takes seconds over it and leaves a record that says what the motorcycle actually is.
Buying One Now
A machine of this age may already have had suspension or damper work, and it is worth establishing what is fitted before ordering anything. The eliminator answers a circuit that only exists if the electronic damper was specified in the first place.
Bar Position and Access
The clip-ons sit below the top yoke, so the damper and its connector are reached from above once the tank and a fairing panel are out of the way. Nothing about the front end needs dismantling to complete the swap.
