Thirty Litres and Six Hundred Kilometres
The Adventure exists for range, and that range is the reason its evaporative system has more to do than any other model in the family.
A Canister That Cannot Keep Up
The vessel is the same size as the standard bike's while the tank is half as large again. Saturation arrives sooner and stays.
The Behaviour That Causes It
Filling completely at every stop, which is what riders crossing empty country do. Liquid fuel reaches the carbon and the bed never recovers.
Hard Starting in the Wrong Place
A saturated canister produces exactly that, generally where the nearest dealer is a day away. It is the most practical argument for this conversion of any bike in the range.
What Is Removed
The vessel, its bracket, the purge valve and every line joining them to the tank and the intake.
Sealed Against Tipping
The fitting admits air and holds fuel back when the motorcycle goes over, which is precisely what the original roll-over arrangement was there to do.
Measured at Every Start
Coil continuity on the purge valve is part of the routine self-test. It has no way of telling deletion from a broken wire.
Two Hundred and Sixty-Eight Kilograms
Wet, before luggage. Everything removed from an Adventure is welcome and everything behind the engine is in the way of a bracket.
Standard Parts Untouched
Nothing in the kit modifies a component that stays on the bike, which is what makes the process symmetrical.
Emissions Testing
Where it applies, the canister is checked visually rather than functionally, which makes a refit before the appointment straightforward.
Two Hundred and Sixty-Eight Kilograms
Wet, before a single pannier goes on, and it disappears entirely above walking pace because BMW carries the mass so low. Below walking pace it is very much still there, which is the one honest criticism of the model.
