The Liquid-Cooled Boxer
BMW added cooling to the cylinder heads for this generation while keeping the layout. It was the largest change to the GS in decades and it made the model quicker and cleaner at once.
The Best-Selling Big Bike Anywhere
The R1200GS outsold everything in its class for years, which means an enormous number of them are still being ridden, modified and prepared for long journeys.
What the System Does
Captures petrol vapour from the tank so it burns in the engine rather than escaping. It is entirely regulatory and it contributes nothing on any surface.
Lines That Chafe
Vapour hoses running behind the engine rub against brackets on rough ground. A split line is a fuel smell and a fault code a long way from anywhere useful.
Fuel in the Carbon
Filling past the nozzle click soaks the bed permanently. Hard starting follows, in exactly the places where a workshop is not available.
The Vent Is Part of the Kit
It is not an afterthought. Getting the tank breathing correctly is the difference between a tidy conversion and a fuel smell in the garage.
The Purge Circuit
The valve is monitored electrically, so unplugging it alone writes a fault into memory. Completing the circuit leaves nothing to find.
Telelever
BMW separates braking forces from suspension movement with a wishbone, which is why a GS does not dive under braking. Nothing else in the class behaves the same way.
Original Fasteners Throughout
Every mounting point is BMW's own, so nothing has to be fabricated when the standard parts go back.
Warranty as Well
On a bike still covered, removing emissions equipment gives a dealer a reason to decline a related claim.
What Stays
The tank, its pump and the intake are untouched. Only the vapour recovery path is affected.
