DescriptionThe whole story▼
Strip the fairing off a superbike and you change the rider's wrists completely. The S1000R puts you upright behind a wide handlebar, and hands that sit high and relaxed want a shorter reach than the racing crouch the standard lever was drawn for. The FXBL-08 gives that reach back: a folding, CNC-machined brake lever with 35 detented positions and a milled blade that a gloved hand finds without looking down.
Key Features
- Reach adjustable across 35 steps without tools
- Knurled central wheel, reachable from the riding position
- Hinged blade that swings aside instead of snapping off
- Phosphated bearing seat, free of play from new
- Approved for German road use, ABE No. KBA 91203
- Bolts to the original master cylinder unchanged
Machining and Finish
Solid aluminium goes in, a finished lever comes out, and the black anodising is applied after the pivot bore is cut so the bearing surface keeps its tolerance. Gilles phosphates that surface separately. On a naked bike this pays off sooner than on a faired one, because nothing shields the perch from road spray and a lever that picks up corrosion in the pivot starts to feel notchy long before it looks worn.
Ergonomics on an Upright Bike
The argument for an adjustable lever on a roadster is not lap times, it is the fourth hour. With the bar high and the arms open, a lever that sits a few millimetres too far out forces the hand to stretch at every set of lights, and that is what makes the forearm ache on a long day. Dialling the blade closer lets the fingers rest on it rather than reach for it. Riders with smaller hands usually find their setting within the first five clicks and never touch the wheel again.
Fitment and Compatibility
Made for the BMW S1000R, type codes K10 and 2R10, model years 2013 through 2020. Both the original roadster and the 2017 revision are covered by the same part. The matching clutch side is the FXCL-28. Riders on the faired S1000RR need the same part number but should read the fitment note for their own year.
Road Approval
Carries ABE No. KBA 91203 for use on German public roads. The engineered break point sits in the two-finger zone and is a condition of that approval, so the blade must not be shortened or drilled.
Scope of Delivery
One brake lever in black, supplied on its own. Nothing else is needed for the swap on the S1000R, since the lever reuses the factory pivot bolt and its retaining nut. Keep the printed ABE with the bike, as that is what makes the part legal at a roadside check.
