An air filter decides one thing: what does not get through it. It does not decide where the air comes from, and it does not decide how warm that air is by the time it reaches the throttle bodies — which is usually what people mean when they say an engine is breathing well, because cooler air is denser air. On a 525 cm³ Voge Valico DSX of 2023 to 2026 the intake mouth is where Voge put it, and it stays there whichever cloth is in the box.
Key Features
- The racing member of the P08 family: dry woven polyester, never oiled, washable throughout
- 85 µm aperture, 15,000 l/m²/sec of rated flow, the highest figure Sprint Filter publishes
- Measured at 95.22 per cent retention of 100-micron particles against 93.13 for the P08
- Close to twice the cloth of other performance elements, folded into the standard frame
- Fits the series airbox in place of the paper panel, with no modification and no remap
- Built to stay with the motorcycle, cleaned rather than replaced; two years of guarantee
What the cloth cannot touch
Intake air temperature is set by where the housing draws from, by how much engine and exhaust heat reaches it, and by the weather that day. None of those is a property of the medium, and no aperture in the Sprint Filter range shifts any of them by a degree. The same is true of the volume of the box and the shape of the ducting: they belong to the motorcycle. What is genuinely left to the element is the pressure the engine spends drawing through it — and there the honest statement is a small one, because a clean panel of any of these media costs little, and the gap between them is a fraction of that little.
The variable that is actually yours
That pressure is the one intake figure an owner controls, because it climbs as the element loads and drops back to where it began when the element is cleaned. That is the product: a resistance that starts low and can be returned to low for the life of the machine. The rated 15,000 l/m²/sec of this racing weave lowers the starting point a shade further, and it is bought for engines held near the top of their range long enough for the difference to be worth something. A road Valico DSX of these four model years is not that engine, and the standard CM251S at 80 µm and 5,050 covers it. No drop-in element, this one included, makes a standard Valico DSX noticeably stronger.
Care and cleaning
The CM251S F1-85 comes out, takes compressed air on its clean side until the weave is open again, and goes back. That is the whole routine most of the time. Water is for the rest: lukewarm, with a mild detergent, rinsed until it runs clear, then dried right through in open air. No heat, no flame, nothing applied to the cloth afterwards, and nothing damp put back into the box. The maintenance sheet is under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
