Read down the list of machines this element fits and the Scrambler stands apart from all of them. Seventeen of the twenty are liquid-cooled Testastretta and Superquadro engines built to rev; the three Scrambler 1100 versions run an air-cooled two-valve Desmodue of 1,079 cc that does its best work in the middle of the range and then politely suggests you change up. Same element, entirely different job. PM127S is the woven polyester panel for it, and what it protects on this bike is the part of the range the bike actually uses.

The air-cooled exception
An air-cooled twin with two valves per cylinder has a narrower useful band than the liquid-cooled engines it shares this part with, and it therefore spends far more of its time near the middle of that band. There is no top-end rush available to paper over a restriction that has crept upward. Whatever the inlet costs, it is being paid at the revs the rider lives at, every time the throttle opens out of a junction.
Where a silted panel shows up first
Loss of low-rev muscle is the first symptom and the last one anyone attributes to a filter. The engine management fuels for the air it actually receives, so the mixture never goes wrong and nothing illuminates on the dash; the bike simply pulls with a little less conviction than it did when it was new. That is the drift a washable element removes, and it is the whole of the claim — a filter change is not a tuning step, and this one is not offered as one.
Care and cleaning
Take it out, put an air line to the clean face and blow outward until the cloth is clear. If the bike has spent a summer on dusty back roads, wash it: warm water, a mild detergent, rinse until the water leaves clean, then dry it in air and only in air — heaters and flames are what actually kill these elements.
