Sprint Filter PM188S air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

The 2024 F 900 GS exists because BMW accepted a criticism: the middleweight had grown heavy. Almost every part of it was reconsidered against the scales, which sets an unusual bar for anything an owner adds afterwards, because intake work normally arrives as hardware — a different box, a stack, a heat shield, often a remap to make any of it worthwhile. The Sprint Filter P08 PM188S adds nothing at all. It occupies the space the paper cartridge left, inside the housing BMW already fitted, and the only thing that changes is the fabric the air passes through on its way in.

Key Features

  • Fills the standard filter position — no bracket, no adapter, no additional parts
  • Dry woven polyester: 80 micron filtration at 5,050 litres per square metre per second
  • Threads from 22 microns in diameter, woven to a calibrated aperture
  • Roughly double the filtering area of other performance filters
  • No modification to the airbox and no remap; the sealed intake stays sealed
  • Washable and reusable, with two years of warranty from purchase

An upgrade that only takes things away

Most of what gets fitted to a motorcycle is additive: more parts, more mass, more to go wrong, and often a compromise elsewhere — an open filter buys flow and gives up the water sealing the airbox was built to provide. This is the opposite kind of change. Restriction goes down, the parts count stays where it was, and the housing carries on doing its job on a wet gravel road. It should also be said plainly that taking restriction out here does not add usable power to a standard 900. The engine is not short of air, and no element that drops into the series box makes it stronger.

Sized for the way the light GS gets ridden

A lighter machine invites a harder duty cycle, which on this bike means more of the day spent on loose surfaces than its predecessor ever saw. Dust is what fills a filter, and the reserve against dust is area — roughly twice as much of it here, so the medium loads more slowly and the pressure drop stays flat for longer. When it is finally full, the PM188S comes out, gets blown through and goes back in, which is a very different end to the day than hunting for a spare cartridge.

Care and cleaning

Work from the clean side outwards with compressed air; the dirt should leave by the way it came. When air alone stops being enough, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and let the element dry right through in the open. No heat source, no flame, no oil — it goes back exactly as dry as it came out. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the BMW F 900 GS from 2023 to 2026. This is the element BMW's F platform shares with the Kove and Voge machines built around the same airbox; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
