The Shoei Neotec 3 is built on three outer shell sizes (XS–M | L | XL–XXL) for a balanced helmet-to-rider proportion across the full size range.
How to measure your helmet size correctly: To find the right helmet size, measure your head circumference with a flexible tape measure.
It is important that the tape measure runs around the widest part of the head – only then will you get a correct result.
Place the tape measure at the front, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and run it along the sides above the ears.
At the back, the tape must run over the largest part of the back of the head (not too low on the neck). The tape may run slightly at an angle – what matters is that it sits all the way around the largest points of the head.
Make sure the tape measure sits snugly but does not dig in. Measure 2–3 times for the most accurate result. You can then compare the measured value in centimetres (cm) with our size chart.
Tips for an accurate result
- Keep hair flat (e.g. do not measure over a voluminous hairstyle)
- Keep the tape horizontal, i.e. along the largest circumference
- Do not measure too loosely
- For values between two sizes:
→ usually choose the larger size (depending on helmet model / fit)
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without causing uncomfortable pressure points.
A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

The Shoei Neotec 3 continues Shoei's line of "TEC" flip-up helmets — and it is the one to reach for when a single helmet has to cover the commute, the evening run through the twisties and a week-long tour. Its large integrated QSV-2 sun visor deals with low sun properly, its ventilation network keeps the closed helmet cool, and its shell is quiet enough that riders regularly single it out as one of the most acoustically refined helmets on the market. Finished in gloss anthracite, and rated a full five stars by SHARP.

P/J Homologation — What It Actually Means
The Neotec 3 carries dual P/J approval under ECE 22.06. "P" means it passed the full protective test with the chin bar closed, including the chin impact test, exactly like a full-face helmet. "J" means it also passed as a jet helmet with the chin bar locked open. You may therefore legally ride with the chin bar raised — something a P-only modular helmet does not allow.
In practice the raised chin bar creates noticeable drag above roughly 30 km/h, so it is intended for slow going, traffic queues and stops rather than sustained riding. Closed is the recommended configuration.
Shell Construction and Safety
The outer shell is made from AIM — Advanced Integrated Matrix — combined with a polystyrene core assembled from elements of differing absorption characteristics, so impact energy is spread across the structure. A stainless steel mechanism locks the chin bar securely in the closed position. The slim chin strap uses a micro-ratchet buckle that is easy to operate with gloves.
Visor System
The CNS-3C visor fitted as standard opens up an almost unrestricted horizontal and vertical field of view. Its characteristic upper edge, angled towards the shell, keeps draught and rain from creeping in. A centrally positioned locking mechanism opens and closes it without twisting, and the detent allows a gap-width opening for extra air on the move. Visor changes are tool-free thanks to the self-adjusting quick-change mechanism.
Important when buying replacement visors: the Neotec 3 takes the CNS-3C. The CNS-3 from the Neotec II does not fit — the generations are not interchangeable, and this is a common and frustrating mis-purchase. The anti-fog Pinlock EVO DKS301 lens fits the CNS-3C and one is supplied with the helmet.
The integrated QSV-2 sun visor deploys steplessly and covers the usable field of view almost completely, including below the eyeline. It can be swapped tool-free for an optional yellow-tinted, contrast-enhancing version.
Ventilation and Aerodynamics
Intakes aimed directly into the airstream feed the deeply branched internal ventilation network, and a removable filter in the lower front vent keeps insects out. The raised vent controls can be operated with thick winter gloves.
Worth knowing: Shoei has deliberately tuned the Neotec 3 towards quietness rather than maximum airflow. Independent testers consistently praise its acoustics — several call it one of the quietest helmets they have worn — while noting that ventilation is adequate rather than abundant. Smooth surfaces and transitions, an eccentric chin-bar movement that minimises panel gaps, and a smooth chin-to-shell transition all serve that same goal of reducing turbulence around the ears.
Comfort and Interior
The three-dimensionally shaped centre pad, the pre-formed cheek pads with Noise Isolator and the chin strap cover are fully removable and washable. Cheek pads extended towards the back of the head, combined with removable ear pads, contribute significantly to noise damping. Centre and cheek pads are available in different thicknesses, and an insertable pad allows the vertical fit to be adjusted. The Neotec 3 follows Shoei's intermediate-oval head shape; riders who wear glasses report that temple arms slide into place without pressure points.

Fitment and Compatibility
The Shoei Neotec 3 is a modular (flip-up) touring helmet for road use, suitable for all motorcycle types — no vehicle-specific fitment restrictions apply. Communication integration is designed around the SENA SRL3 Mesh fitted into the SHOEI COMLINK interface, available separately. Replacement visors must be of the CNS-3C type.
