DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 60293-41 is a shock absorber spring rated at 115 N/mm, 190 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. Rear spring rate sets ride height, static sag and how much of the damper's stroke is actually usable.
Key Features
- Free length 190 mm
- 84 mm of usable stroke
- Öhlins part number 60293-41
- Inner diameter 46 mm
- Powder-coated yellow
- Measured spring rate 115 N/mm
- Straight-wound, constant rate
Manufacture and Tolerance
Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips. The wire is progressively wound where the application calls for it and straight where it does not. Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly.
Dimensions
The 46 mm bore and 190 mm length are the two figures that decide whether it physically fits; 115 N/mm decides whether it suits the rider.
Choosing 115 N/mm
A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. If the suspension bottoms out or the geometry collapses under load, this is the direction to go. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.
What the Rear Spring Decides
Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters. Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong.
Applications
A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in. Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table.
What Fitting Involves
Fitting is a fork-oil job: the legs come apart, the springs go in, the oil level is set to specification. Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies. Öhlins part numbers are stamped on the packaging rather than the spring, so keep the label with the setup notes.
Road Approval
Road approval: not applicable to the spring on its own. Öhlins issues approvals against complete suspension units, not individual springs.
Fitting and Setup Service
Öhlins suspension rewards careful fitting. We recommend having the work done by an authorised Öhlins service centre — and we are one ourselves: we fit, service and set up Öhlins components in house. If you would like us to handle the installation, just ask and we will quote it with the order.
