DescriptionThe whole story

The JP ES 047 lifts the Ninja 400's activated carbon vessel out and finishes the job properly.

Key Features

  • Kawasaki Ninja 400 (2018–2024)
  • Removes the evaporative canister and its hoses
  • Vents the tank through a proper fitting
  • Closes the purge valve circuit
  • Clears the space behind the engine
  • Standard parts refit at any time

Replaced by the Ninja 500

Kawasaki enlarged the engine for 2024 and kept almost everything else. The 400 has become an unusually good used buy as a result.

A2 Without a Limiter

Forty-five horsepower keeps the Ninja 400 inside the restricted category honestly, so it behaves consistently everywhere rather than hitting an electronic wall.

Charcoal in a Canister

It absorbs petrol vapour rising from a warm tank and holds it until the engine draws it through the intake to be burnt. That is the entire mechanism and none of it benefits the rider.

A Bigger Tank Works It Harder

The touring models carry more fuel and produce proportionally more vapour while the canister stays the same size. Saturation arrives sooner on those machines.

An Older Bike, a Spent Bed

On anything past a decade the charcoal has almost certainly stopped absorbing, which makes the assembly dead weight in the most literal sense available.

Two Bolts and a Clip

The bracket is not structural and nothing about its removal is difficult. Everything hard about this job is simply reaching it.

Improvised Removals

A hose cut short and cable-tied to the frame is the usual approach. It vents the tank until the motorcycle lies on its side and then demonstrates the problem.

The Inspection Question

Where periodic testing includes a visual check, an absent canister is a straightforward failure. Keeping the parts makes the refit an evening rather than a parts order and a delay.

What the Next Owner Should Be Told

That the system was removed, when it happened, and that the parts are in a box. Anything less turns a straightforward modification into an unpleasant surprise during a pre-purchase inspection.
