DescriptionThe whole story▼
Protecting the alternator cover on your Yamaha YZF-R6 is one of the most cost-effective safeguards you can fit before a track day or spirited road ride. GBRacing's alternator cover protector is engineered from 60% glass-fibre nylon — a material chosen specifically for its ability to absorb and disperse impact energy, dramatically reducing the risk of a cracked or destroyed alternator cover during a get-off. Fitted to every YZF-R6 from 2006 right through to 2026, it is the kind of no-compromise protection that serious R6 riders treat as standard equipment.
Key Features
- 60% glass-fibre nylon construction delivers exceptional impact resistance and long-term durability without adding unnecessary weight to the motorcycle.
- Bolt-on fitment with included mounting hardware means straightforward installation and equally quick removal when a replacement is needed.
- Guards against expensive alternator cover repairs — one low-cost protector can save hundreds in parts and labour after a slide.
- Broad model-year coverage spanning the entire YZF-R6 production run from 2006 to 2026, making it relevant for club racers, trackday enthusiasts and road riders alike.
- Clean, purposeful aesthetic that complements the R6's aggressive styling without looking out of place.
Installation Note for 2017–2026 Models
On YZF-R6 models produced from 2017 onwards, the small metal cover located beneath the alternator must be removed prior to fitting this protector. Replace the original fixing with an M6x25 A2 bolt (not supplied). This is a straightforward one-step modification that takes only a few minutes and does not affect the function of the alternator or any associated components.
Build Quality and Protection Philosophy
GBRacing has built its reputation supplying engine covers to club racers and professional teams across Europe. Every protector in the range is designed to take the initial energy of a crash and sacrifice itself before the underlying casings are compromised. The glass-fibre nylon compound used here is not a cheap filler material — it is a precision-engineered composite that resists cracking under sudden impact, holds its shape under sustained abrasion on tarmac, and remains stable across the temperature range a four-cylinder supersport engine generates. For an R6 that sees regular circuit use, fitting this cover is simply prudent engineering.
