DescriptionThe whole story▼
Four point six kilograms and 7.1 newton metres at 4,000 rpm. On a fully equipped Adventure Sports — the version with the larger tank, the electronic suspension and the touring screen — those are the two numbers that change the motorcycle.
Key Features
- 5.59 kg against the standard 10.19 kg: 4.6 kg and 45.1 per cent less
- 7.1 Nm more at 4,000 rpm and 8.7 PS at 7,500 rpm
- Complete system with a titanium muffler sleeve
- Double-flow muffler combining a hexagonal body with a classic rear end cap
- Robust carbon fibre clamp
- ECU remapping recommended
- No road approval — circuit use only
Read This Before Ordering: the Check Engine Light
Akrapovic states it directly. On Euro 5+ machines, which carry two lambda sensors, fitting this system will produce an engine check light once the ECU registers a deviation in the standard catalytic converter's parameters.
This is not a fault and not a defect in the exhaust — it is the engine management noticing that the catalytic converter is gone, because it is. Plan the remap as part of the installation, not as something to consider afterwards.
Ten Kilograms of Standard Exhaust
Honda's system on the Adventure Sports weighs 10.19 kg, which is the heaviest standard exhaust in this catalogue. A big adventure twin has to meet Euro 5 noise and emissions while surviving heat, water and gravel, and Honda solved that with mass.
Removing 4.6 kg from a 240 kg motorcycle will not transform it. What it does is take weight from high on the right side, which is exactly where a tall bike least wants it when it is being picked up or turned around on a slope.
The Muffler Shape
Akrapovic calls this a double-flow design: a hexagonal body finished with a more classic round rear cap. It is an unusual combination and a deliberate one — on a machine styled like the Africa Twin, a pure race can would look borrowed from another bike.
Adventure Sports, Not the Base Bike
Honda sells two Africa Twins: the standard CRF1100L and the Adventure Sports with a 24.8 litre tank, a taller screen and on most versions electronically adjustable suspension. Their exhaust routing differs, and this system is for the Adventure Sports.
The base machine takes a separate part. If your registration document says only CRF1100L, check with us before ordering.
Manual or DCT
Honda's dual clutch transmission changes a great deal about how the Africa Twin is ridden and nothing at all about where the exhaust goes. Both versions take this system.
