DescriptionThe whole story▼

Plenty of Monster 1200 owners have no garage and keep the bike outside under a cover. A good cover keeps off rain and dust, but in a storm it can also catch the wind like a sail. A strong gust against the broad side of the fabric pushes the bike off its side stand, and the big naked Ducati lands on its right-hand side, with the brake lever taking the first blow. For the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2016, Accossato lists the AGD209, a black replacement brake lever in the original form.

Key Features

  • Original-type replacement brake lever for the Ducati Monster 1200
  • Accossato lists it for 2014 to 2016
  • Black
  • Right-hand lever, operates the front brake
  • Developed by Accossato for good value for money
  • Accossato cites increased resistance after damage or collisions from its production process
  • One lever
  • No German ABE or test mark; for racing and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Weather damage is annoying precisely because nobody was riding, and the goal afterwards is simply to put the bike right again. The AGD209 is Accossato's spare of the original type, designed to take the place of the damaged lever on the Monster 1200 without altering the look of the cockpit. Accossato developed it around value for money and says that its manufacturing process increases the lever's resistance after damage or a fall. The lever is black, as listed; the manufacturer publishes no further details.

Covers, Straps and the Wind

A few precautions make a cover far less likely to topple the bike. Choose one with a strap or elastic cord that runs underneath between the wheels, so the wind cannot get under the fabric and lift it. Park the Monster 1200 so that the prevailing wind comes from the right, the side opposite the stand; a gust then pushes the bike onto its stand rather than off it. Leave it in gear on firm, level ground, and use the shelter of a wall or a hedge where you can. When a storm is forecast, some owners take the cover off altogether, because a wet bike is a smaller problem than a fallen one. If it has gone over, lift it, check the right-hand side, the master cylinder and the mirror, and fit the replacement lever with a clean, lightly greased pivot. Then confirm with the bike stationary that the brake light works and that the pressure point is firm before the first ride.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the AGD209 for the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2016, and it is the only replacement brake lever on its list for this bike. On the clutch side you have a choice of the silver AGS199 for 2014 to 2016 and the black AGS200 for 2014 and 2015. The AGD209 is also catalogued at Inter-Pace for the Diavel, the Multistrada 1200 and the Streetfighter 848. For a tuning part, the list of Accossato's CNC levers for the Monster 1200 includes EDF099, ESH011, LV013, LV015 and RA002.

Road Approval

No approval documents exist in our files for the AGD209, so there is neither a German ABE nor a test mark; we offer it for racing and competition use.
