DescriptionThe whole story▼
Some owners of a Ducati Hypermotard 821 take it to kart circuits, where short straights and tight corners suit a supermoto-style bike better than a fast grand prix track. A day of lapping there is hard on the front brakes: dozens of stops per session and hardly a pause to cool. For the Hypermotard 821 of 2013 to 2016, Accossato lists the DKS053, a floating front disc on a black carrier, 5.5 mm thick and 320 mm in diameter.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Hypermotard 821, 2013 to 2016
- Listed for the standard bike, with or without ABS, and the SP
- Outer diameter 320 mm, bore 72 mm, thickness 5.5 mm
- Five mounting holes of 8.5 mm, 90 mm hole-centre distance
- Black carrier
- Can replace the original disc directly
- Price for one disc, two fitted at the front
- For track days and racing: no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Controlled clearance is the idea behind the DKS053: its friction ring is riveted to a black carrier loosely enough to float. The carrier is fixed to the wheel by five bolts in 8.5 mm holes at a 90 mm hole-centre distance, and the centre bore is 72 mm. Accossato states that the disc can replace the original one directly. Based on its experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, the company says it pays particular attention to material selection and to the play between ring and carrier.
A Day on a Kart Circuit
Kart tracks are tight, and a Hypermotard 821 spends much of each lap on the brakes, so plan the day around heat. Start with an easy session to warm tyres and discs, then build pace. At the end of each session, ride a slow lap with the brakes barely touched so everything can cool. Between sessions, look at the discs: an even grey surface is fine, while bluish patches or a glazed shine mean they have been working at their limit. After the day, measure the thickness and look at the pads, because a single day of this kind can use up a surprising amount of both.
Fitment and Compatibility
The DKS053 appears on Accossato's list for the Hypermotard 821 from 2013 to 2016, covering the standard bike with and without ABS as well as the SP. The price is for one disc; the bike needs two. Accossato also lists the thinner DK053 for this Hypermotard, and levers from its range are listed for the 821 too.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE and no type approval on record for the DKS053. It is sold for track days and competition.
Scope of Delivery
