DescriptionThe whole story▼
Adventure trips on a Super Ténéré frequently begin or end at a harbour, since places such as Corsica, Sardinia and the Greek islands are reached by ferry. Riding onto a car deck is short but demanding: a steel ramp that may be wet, a steep angle, tight turns between cars and a deckhand waving you on. It is walking-pace work, and most of it is done by the clutch. With the ESY688, listed for the XT1200Z Super Ténéré from 2017 to 2019, Accossato offers a machined aluminium clutch lever whose reach can be set so the friction zone sits where your fingers hold it most easily.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the XT1200Z Super Ténéré, listed 2017 to 2019
- Fits at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- Short, standard (approx. 138 mm) and long blades, depending on colour
- Machined aluminium, anodised; hub always black
- Seven blade colours from black to green
- Rigid blade without a folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Think of the ESY688 in two parts. The hub is the working end: it pivots at the clutch mounting and carries the adjuster that sets how far the blade stands from the grip. The blade is the lever arm your fingers pull. Accossato machines both as one piece from aluminium on CNC equipment, then anodises the hub black and the blade in your chosen colour. Because hub and blade are one fixed part, with no fold between them, the lever passes even small movements of your fingers straight on to the clutch.
Boarding the Ferry
Ferry ramps are a classic place for heavy bikes to tip over. The metal is slippery when wet, the transition from quay to ramp can be steep, and once on board you have to turn tightly between parked cars and lashing points, often on a painted deck. The calm technique is to ride on in first gear with a little throttle held steady, controlling speed with the clutch and a touch of rear brake, and to look where you want to go rather than at the deck. That is steady, slow clutch work, and a lever set close enough to hold in the friction zone without strain makes it far easier. On the Super Ténéré, fully loaded with cases and a tank bag, a short blade under two fingers leaves the rest of the hand holding the bar firmly. Stop where the crew directs you, and leave the bike in gear before you climb off.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives the ESY688 for the XT 1200 Z Super Ténéré for 2017 to 2019. For the same years, the ESC777 appears in the list as well, so check your original clutch lever against the product photos before ordering. The ESY688 mounts at the original clutch mounting and replaces the stock lever. Accossato's front brake lever for this bike is the EDF016, listed for 2010 to 2020.
Road Approval
This clutch lever carries no documented German ABE and is offered for the racetrack.
