DescriptionThe whole story▼
KTM builds its Duke naked bikes as a ladder of sizes, and plenty of riders climb it one rung at a time, from a 125 or 390 to a 690 or 790 and eventually to the 1290 Super Duke R at the top. Each step adds engine, but the brakes grow as well: the Super Duke R stops on two large front discs where the small Dukes make do with one. Fitted to the Super Duke R of 2014 to 2023, Accossato's EDF099 lets you place the blade exactly where your fingers are, and it comes in three lengths.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, model years 2014 to 2023
- Replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance from the grip
- Blade lengths short, standard and long; the standard one approx. 138 mm
- Seven blade colours on a black anodised hub
- CNC-machined aluminium without a folding joint
- Shipped in its own Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
Computer-controlled milling turns aluminium into an EDF099 whose shape does not vary from one piece to the next. The finished part is anodised, black at the hub, where the lever turns and where its rest position is set, and one of seven colours along the blade. There is no joint anywhere between hub and tip, and with front brakes as capable as those of the Super Duke R, that is the point. Nothing in the lever can move except around its pivot, so a small change of finger pressure reaches the master cylinder as a small change, not as a jolt after some slack has been taken up.
Up the Duke Ladder
A rider who moves to the Super Duke R from a smaller Duke tends to bring the braking habits of the smaller bike along. On a light single with one disc, a firm squeeze with the whole hand is normal. On the 1290, the same squeeze can pitch the bike onto its front wheel more abruptly than expected, and the first ride can leave the impression that the brakes are grabby, when the hand is simply asking for too much at once. The cure is to recalibrate. Set the reach so the blade meets your fingers without stretching, then make a series of stops in a quiet car park, starting at low speed and letting the pressure rise in a smooth ramp rather than a step. Many riders find two fingers plenty on this bike, and that is where the short blade comes in, since it keeps the remaining fingers clear of the lever and wrapped around the grip. If you would rather keep the whole hand involved, the standard length is closest to the original Super Duke R lever.
Fitment and Compatibility
Model years 2014 to 2023 of the 1290 Super Duke R are covered by this lever, according to Accossato, and it mounts on the bike's own master cylinder. For the clutch, the matching part is the ESM011, listed for the Super Duke R from 2014 to 2021 and made in the same colours.
Road Approval
We sell the EDF099 for track use: a German ABE for this lever has not been documented.
