DescriptionThe whole story▼
The F 800 GS Adventure is the long-distance version of BMW's middleweight GS, with a larger fuel tank, more wind protection and equipment that suggests a trip rather than an afternoon. Trips like that lead sooner or later onto gravel roads, and gravel roads are often corrugated into a washboard that shakes the bike and everything on it. For the F 800 GS Adventure of 2013 to 2018, Accossato supplies the EDB001: a front brake lever milled from aluminium, whose distance to the grip you can adjust.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the BMW F 800 GS Adventure, 2013 to 2018
- Fits the original BMW master cylinder
- Reach adjustable to the grip
- Standard length about 138 mm; short in five colours, long in four
- CNC-machined aluminium with anodised finish
- Black hub and a choice of seven blade colours
- Fixed blade, no hinge to rattle
Construction and Material Quality
Corrugated roads find every loose part on a motorcycle, and a folding lever has one more than a fixed one. The EDB001 is a single rigid piece from its black hub to the tip of the blade, so there is nothing along its length to rattle or work loose over thousands of kilometres of rough track. Accossato mills it from aluminium on CNC machines, which keeps the profile consistent, and then anodises it: black at the hub, which contains the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, and your choice of colour on the blade.
Washboard Gravel
On a corrugated road the front wheel does not stay in steady contact with the ground. It skips from one ridge to the next, and at some speeds it spends a surprising share of the time barely touching. Braking there is a skill of its own. Grab the lever while the wheel is light and it can lock for an instant or bring in the ABS, if your bike has it, and the bike turns nervous just when you want it calm. It works better to slow down before the corrugations begin and, if you must brake on them, to squeeze lightly and steadily, letting the rear brake do more of the work. Standing on the pegs with loose arms, the bike moving freely beneath you, you still need a finger or two on the front lever without clamping the grip. Set the EDB001's reach for your off-road gloves and a standing position on the F 800 GS Adventure, and the blade stays where your fingers are, however hard the bars shake.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDB001 fits the F 800 GS Adventure from its introduction for 2013 through to 2018, replacing BMW's brake lever on the original master cylinder. Accossato's own list gives the Adventure a longer run of years than BMW actually built it for, so this product is limited to the real production period. Accossato also makes the ESB008 clutch lever for the same 2013 to 2018 bikes, on the same black hub and in the same colours, if you want the left side to match.
Road Approval
This brake lever carries no documented German ABE; accordingly, we sell it for use on the track.
