Öhlins specifies the compound by position: NBR where oil is the concern, FKM where heat is. A leaking damper is not a cosmetic problem: it is a damper that has stopped controlling the wheel. Öhlins uses seals with a spring-loaded lip so they follow the shaft as it wears.

Why the Original

Öhlins numbers every position so a workshop can order precisely what it needs, not a whole assembly. The part number is the contract: it defines material, dimension and finish together. Order by part number — descriptions repeat across sizes, numbers do not. Service parts are ordered per piece unless stated otherwise.

Getting the Number Right

The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 00438-02 in this case. inner diameter 23.52 mm, cross section 1.78 mm, material NBR 70 is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Dust seals keep grit off the running surface; once they are torn, the oil seal behind them has a short life. Replacing seals at service intervals is far cheaper than replacing what a failed seal damages.

Fitting and Setup Service

Ask us about a full service: as an authorised Öhlins centre we strip, inspect, replace what is worn and set the unit back to its specification.

Specifications

Brand: Öhlins

Part Number: 00438-02

Category: O-Rings

Inner Diameter: 23.52 mm

Cross Section: 1.78 mm

Material: NBR 70

Country of Origin: Sweden

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/00438-02_078949fe-2174-4029-87a6-57f494c167b2.png?v=1788871901
