Dust is usually treated as a property of a place, which turns the fine medium into a decision about where somebody lives. On most roads it behaves more like a property of the season: a long dry spell, a harvest, resurfacing work along a route used every day, grit spread through the winter and swept up in March. The CM196P14 answers weeks like those rather than an address — and because this airbox takes the standard weave just as readily, it is a fitment that can go in for a stretch of the year and come out again.
Key Features
- Dry special non-woven medium, filtering at 14 µm
- Rated flow 1,800 l/m²/sec — deliberately below what the standard weave passes
- Never oiled, so nothing can be carried onto a throttle body or a sensor
- Roughly twice the filter surface of other performance elements, in the untouched series airbox
- Straight swap for the original panel: no airbox work, no ducting changes, no remap
- Washable and reusable, specified for the life of the motorcycle, two years of warranty
A seasonal fitment rather than a permanent one
Both media sit in the same frame in the same box, and changing between them takes the same few minutes in either direction. That makes the choice something revisited at each service instead of settled once at purchase. A Bear ridden through a dusty summer and a clean, wet autumn can reasonably wear the non-woven for one and the weave for the other, and the only stock this needs is the two panels themselves, each washed rather than consumed.
What is being bought, stated as a cost
Flow: 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the 80 µm weave. That is the whole of the trade, and it belongs in front of any benefit rather than after it — a finer medium holds more and passes less, in that order. It is worth adding that Sprint Filter publishes no retention percentage for this medium as it does for the woven ones, so the evidence available is the micron rating and the flow rating and no third number. Nothing arrives at the other end either: a drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and a finer one least of all.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, applied to the clean face of the CM196P14 and worked outwards, is the whole routine for dust. A non-woven holds part of its load within its thickness rather than on a face, so give it longer than a woven panel would need and check it against the light. Water and a mild detergent are for greasy contamination, followed by a proper rinse. Dry in open air with no heat of any kind, then refit untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Royal Enfield Bear 650, 2025 and 2026. The same non-woven element is listed for two further machines on this airbox, the Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650, both from 2018 to 2026. Confirm your year in the Fitment tab.
