Something changes in this family of part numbers at the racing grade, and it is easy to miss. The standard weave and the extreme nonwoven for this housing are both listed for two machines, the V100 Mandello and the Stelvio. SM239S F1-85 is listed for the Mandello alone. Geometry cannot be the reason — a panel that fits one airbox of a shared platform fits the other. What differs is the expectation behind the listing, and that is a more useful thing to know before ordering than any figure on the data sheet.

What a shorter list is telling you

A catalogue entry is not advice, but the shape of one carries information. An open weave is drawn for machines whose airbox is opened often and whose air is comparatively clean between those visits — the pattern of a bike that sees track sessions rather than long unsupervised distances. Listing it against the road-and-sport machine of the platform and not against the adventure model reads as a statement about who is expected to want it. If your Mandello lives the second kind of life, the standard weave answers better, and no part number will tell you that as plainly as the usage will.

Open weave, plainly described

By Sprint Filter's own account this material sits behind the air filters most widely used in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock; that is a manufacturer statement about where the cloth is deployed rather than an independent test, and it is quoted here as such. The engineering underneath is simple: more air through, less of the fine fraction held back. It is not a power part. Fitted inside an unaltered airbox it leaves a series V100 Mandello producing what it was certified to produce, and the honest return is a very low intake resistance that a cleaning restores in full.

Care and cleaning

SM239S F1-85 is regenerated with compressed air, blown from the clean face outward so the load leaves the medium the way it came in. After a wet or oily session, lukewarm water with a mild detergent will clean it properly; rinse thoroughly and let the panel dry completely in circulating air.
