A CFMOTO CL-C 450 from the 2024 to 2026 model years has almost its entire service history still ahead of it: the first valve inspection, the first set of tyres, a long row of oil changes. The air element is the smallest line on that list and the easiest to stop thinking about, because it is bought again every few services and asks for nothing in between. This is the part that answers the question once. The Sprint Filter P08 is washed and put back rather than replaced, and Sprint Filter builds it to stay in the airbox for as long as the motorcycle is on the road.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in one dry layer, rated at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec
- No filter oil at any stage of its life — nothing to re-treat after a wash
- Takes the paper panel's place in the series airbox; no cutting, no remap
- Roughly twice the working surface of the usual performance element
- Serviced with a compressed-air line and refitted the same afternoon
- Built for the service life of the machine, warranted two years from purchase
One line taken off the service list
Count the elements a 450 will get through between its first service and the day it changes hands, and the total is not trivial — a disposable panel comes due on a schedule whether or not the roads you ride put anything in it. On any single occasion the outlay is too small to argue about, which is precisely why it keeps recurring unexamined. A washable element settles the matter at the first change and leaves nothing to reorder afterwards. Be clear about what is bought there, though: a drop-in filter does not make a standard CL-C 450 noticeably faster, and any listing that hints otherwise is selling a story. What it buys is an intake restriction that comes back to where it began every time you clean it.
What the weave tells you
A washable element also hands back something a disposable one throws away: a record. Hold the panel to a light before servicing it and the picture belongs to your riding — pollen after a dry spring, fine grit from a winter of treated roads, very little at all after a season of clean tarmac. That reading is only useful before the decision has been taken, and with a paper panel it never is: you look at it on the day you have already bought its replacement. After two or three seasons you stop taking the interval on trust.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean face, worked outwards, covers the ordinary service: whatever the cloth stopped leaves by the route it came in. When the panel is greasy rather than dusty, lukewarm water with a little mild detergent lifts it — rinse it through until nothing more comes away. Let it dry in moving air at its own pace, keep it away from heat guns, radiators and open flame, and put it back dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet for the PM270S sits in the Downloads tab on this page.
