DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Knox Action Pro Elbow Guards are pull-on sleeves for riders who want elbow protection without wearing an armoured jacket. You slide one over each forearm, and a Micro-Lock Compact protector then sits directly over the joint. Knox designed them for every kind of riding, for adrenaline sports and for eBike users, so the pair can live in your kit bag whether the day brings a commute or a forest track.
In black with a copper-toned Knox elastic band at both ends, the sleeves stay discreet under a long-sleeve top and match the rest of the Action Pro Collection, including the knee guards and the Action Pro shorts.
Key Features
- Micro-Lock Compact elbow armour fitted as standard, CE Level 1 according to the Knox list
- Tube made from Sorona® Agile by DuPont, a fibre partly based on plant-derived polymers
- Stretch mesh at the crook of the elbow and on the inner forearm
- Knox elastic with silicone grip on the upper and lower opening
- Patented Flex and Adapt side closure on the protector for unbroken coverage when you bend the arm
- One size, unisex; Knox quotes a 5-year guarantee on the Micro-Lock protector after registration
How the elbow armour works
Micro-Lock is the soft armour family from Knox. At rest it bends with your arm; when struck, the structure locks up and absorbs energy before it reaches the elbow, as the manufacturer describes it. Knox states that the Compact generation used in this sleeve is up to 60 % lighter, thinner and more supple than its older protection.
The Knox price list gives CE Level 1 for the Action Pro elbow guard. Level 1 is the slimmer of the two classes for limb protectors under EN 1621-1; a Level 2 part lets less force through but is thicker.
Fabric and airflow
Two fabrics form the sleeve. The main body is Sorona® Agile, 67 % elastomultiester and 33 % polyester, with a fine piqué surface that Knox calls strong, stretchy and stain resistant. A second panel of 88 % nylon and 12 % spandex creates the mesh zones in the elbow crook and along the inner forearm, which is where heat builds up on a climb or in slow traffic.
Inside, a lining of 92 % polyamide and 8 % Lycra® keeps the protector pocket smooth against bare skin or a thin base layer.
Fit and grip
Only one size exists. The Knox-branded elastic with silicone dots at each opening is meant to stop the tube from sliding down the forearm or bunching above the joint. Knox does not publish a circumference range, so if your forearms are very slim or very muscular, try the sleeve on before a long ride.
Where the sleeves make sense
Pull-on elbow guards close a gap: under a riding shirt without armour pockets, beneath an enduro or eBike jersey, or as an extra layer when the jacket you own has no elbow armour at all. Knox lists all types of riding plus action sports as intended use.
Care and the matching set
Knox advises cleaning Micro-Lock protectors by hand only, so skip the hot machine cycle and follow the care label sewn into the sleeve. Dry the guards at room temperature rather than on a radiator and store them flat, which keeps the armour in shape. Inspect the pad at least once a year for cracks or a loose fit. For the legs, the Action Pro Knee Guards share the same fabric, grip bands and armour family, and the Action Pro shorts extend the set to the hips.
What you should know
These guards cushion an impact on the elbow; they do not stop abrasion on asphalt, so on the road you still need a jacket or shirt that can slide. The armour is Level 1, not Level 2. There is a single size and no published measurement range. Knox advises replacing Micro-Lock protectors after any crash impact and after five years at the latest, and the quoted guarantee only applies once the product is registered with Knox.
Colour
Black is the only finish for the Action Pro Elbow Guards. Under a shirt sleeve they do not show through, and trail dust barely marks the dark knit. The copper-coloured woven Knox band at each end is the single accent, next to a small yellow CE label on the outside of the sleeve. Dark fabric warms up in strong sun, which the mesh zones partly balance out.
