Öhlins at Both Ends
NIX30 forks and a TTX36 shock as standard, which closed most of the gap between a showroom bike and a prepared one before the owner spent anything.
Brembo Monobloc Calipers
Fitted alongside the Öhlins, which meant the R arrived with the two components a race build would otherwise have to buy first.
What the Controller Measures
Coil resistance, at every ignition cycle. It has no way of distinguishing a deliberately removed valve from a broken wire and no reason to try.
Not a Power Part
Removing the valve frees nothing and adds nothing. It removes a noise, a fault code and a component, which is the honest description of what it does.
Aftermarket Exhausts
Almost every Triumph that gets this part also gets a new silencer, and the two changes belong in the same session rather than a month apart.
The Cost of Getting It Wrong
A jumper wire across the terminals produces a resistance the controller was not looking for, and the resulting code is harder to diagnose than the original absence would have been. Doing it properly is cheaper than explaining it later.
Why Triumph Monitors It At All
Because regulations require the system to be shown to be working, not merely present. The self-test exists to satisfy that requirement and it does its job faithfully.
Why Triumph Cannot Simply Omit It
Because the type approval for every market that mandates the system is granted on the basis that it is present and functioning. The manufacturer has no discretion here and no reason to make the aftermarket's job easier.
On a Bike With a Slip-On
Half the exhaust is still standard, and the overrun is already louder than it was. The valve is the difference between a pleasant note and a constant crackle.
