DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Yamaha WR250R is a tall, slim dual-sport motorcycle with a liquid-cooled 250cc four-stroke, registered for the road but most at home on gravel and trails. Its height is part of its off-road ability and also the source of its one recurring embarrassment: the slow-motion fall when a rider stops, reaches for the ground and finds it further away than expected. Accossato's B8161, listed for the WR250R of 2008 to 2020, is a front brake lever machined from Ergal 7075 in Italy, with a blade that can fold forward on a joint when the bike goes over.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Yamaha WR250R, 2008 to 2020
- Replaces the stock lever at the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade designed for three fingers
- Joint lets the blade fold forward in a tip-over
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black or blue on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use, not for public roads
Construction and Material Quality
On a dual-sport bike the front brake lever sees everything from gravel tracks to rocky trails. Accossato mills the B8161 in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, an alloy valued for its high strength, so that the lever can be strong and dependable without extra weight. It is built in two sections: a dark base that pivots on the master cylinder, and a black or blue blade hinged to that base so it can fold. The brake blade is kept short, for three fingers, leaving the rest of the hand around the grip.
When the Ground Is Further Away
Off-road trails are rarely level where you need to stop. A rider pulls up on a rutted track to wait for a friend, puts a foot down, and the boot lands in a hole or on the low side of a rut, well below where it was expected. On a bike as tall as the WR250R, that extra distance is enough: the machine leans past the point where a leg can hold it and settles gently onto its side. Riders of tall bikes develop the habit of looking at the ground before they stop, picking a spot where the surface is higher, and putting down the foot on that side.
Gentle or not, those falls land on the levers, and on the right it is the front brake lever that carries the weight of a dual-sport bike. With a solid lever, even a stationary fall can bend or snap the blade on a stone. The B8161's blade has a joint that lets it fold forward when it is pushed from the end, which gives it a real chance of coming through undamaged. Pick up the WR250R, fold the blade back and ride on. The joint is no guarantee, but it turns many of these small embarrassments into nothing more than that.
Fitment and Compatibility
The B8161 is listed for the Yamaha WR250R of 2008 to 2020 and fits Yamaha's own front brake master cylinder in place of the standard lever. The matching folding clutch lever is the C7160, listed for the same years and available in black, blue, gold or green, while the brake lever comes in black or blue; those two are the shared colours.
Road Approval
The WR250R is registered for the road, but the B8161 has no documented German ABE. With this lever fitted, the bike is not approved for use on public roads; fit it for off-road riding and events.
Scope of Delivery
