DescriptionThe whole story▼
A light motorcycle stops quickly, and it also changes its posture quickly when you ask it to. On the MT-07 Moto Cage, a specially styled version of Yamaha's parallel-twin roadster, a firm pull on the front brake moves weight onto the front wheel almost instantly, and the rear end goes light. How calmly that happens depends largely on the first part of the lever's travel. The Accossato EDF016 replaces the original brake lever of the Moto Cage, offered here for 2015 and 2016, with a CNC-machined aluminium lever whose distance from the grip you set yourself.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Yamaha MT-07 Moto Cage, 2015 and 2016
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable near the pivot
- Standard blade of approximately 138 mm; short and long blades in selected colours
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Hub in black, blade in one of seven colours
- Rigid one-piece blade, no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato produces the EDF016 by machining aluminium on CNC equipment rather than casting it, and anodises the lever once it has its final shape. Two tones result: a black hub, which houses the pivot and the reach adjuster, and a blade in the colour you pick, from quiet black or silver to red, orange, gold, green or blue. Anodising colours the outer layer of the metal itself instead of coating it, so there is no paint to lift at the edges after a few seasons. The blade is not hinged; from the hub to its tip it is one rigid piece.
When the Rear Goes Light
Braking hard moves weight forward, and on a compact, light twin like the MT-07 Moto Cage the shift happens in a moment. The fork compresses, the front tyre is pressed into the road and the rear tyre loses much of its load. If the lever is snatched, all of that arrives in one jolt, and the rear can wander out of line or even lift. If the lever is squeezed, the fork settles first and the braking force can then build to its full strength while the bike stays composed. The difference lies in the fingers, and fingers work more precisely when they do not have to hunt for the blade. With the reach set so that the lever rests under the first finger joints, the squeeze starts the instant you decide to brake. The standard blade suits most riders; the long version, made in blue, gold, green and orange, spreads the effort across four fingers, which makes a smooth build-up easier for riders who do not yet trust two.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF016 for the MT-07 Moto Cage under the version name MT-07 700 Moto Cage; the Moto Cage was presented for the 2015 model year, so this product covers 2015 and 2016. The lever takes the place of the stock blade on the original master cylinder, and nothing else on the brake is altered. For the left side of the same bike, the list names the ESY688 clutch lever for the same years, with the same black hub and colour range, should you want the two to match. If a previous owner has already changed the controls on your Moto Cage, compare the parts on the bike with the product photos before ordering.
Road Approval
The EDF016 has no documented German ABE. It is sold for use on closed circuits.
