For the second, the usual objection to a finer filter largely falls away. The P14 gives up flow at the top of the rev range, where a triple making its peak at 11,200 rpm would draw on it — and a restricted engine never asks for the air that full power would demand. What remains is the half of the trade that works for the rider: a mat that filters down to 14 µm, on a bike whose restriction already caps its appetite.

Key Features

Special nonwoven, used dry, with a filtration rating of 14 µm

Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, about a third of the P08's figure

Intended for demanding conditions: dusty roads, dirty city air, long distances

Fits the unmodified 703R ETC airbox in place of the standard panel, with no remap

Never oiled; cleaned with compressed air rather than replaced

Two-year warranty; designed to last the life of the motorcycle

Why the flow figure matters less here

Every filter spends some of the engine's pressure getting air through it, and a finer mat spends more. On paper, 1,800 l/m²/sec against the P08's 5,050 looks like a large sacrifice. But that capacity is only called on when the engine demands a great deal of air at once, and demand follows power. A 703R ETC restricted to A2 output simply asks for less at full throttle than the same engine at 95 hp. The finer catch stays the same either way; the cost shrinks with the restriction.

After the restriction comes off

A2 motorcycles are often converted to full power once their owners' licences allow it, and the element does not need to change on that day — it fits the same airbox either way. What changes is the balance of the trade. At full output, ridden hard near the top of the rev range on clean roads, the standard P08 becomes the better match, and switching then is the sensible move. On dusty roads the P14 keeps its place at any power level. In neither state is it a performance part: nothing in an unmodified airbox makes the bike stronger.

Care and cleaning

Take SM300P14 out and blow compressed air through it from the clean side outwards until the whole mat has been covered. Loads that air leaves behind wash out in lukewarm water with a mild detergent; rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it in moving air at room temperature, never with a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, and refit it dry with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

For the Zontes 703R ETC of 2026, in full-power and A2 form alike. The same P14 is listed for the 703RR of 2025 and 2026; the 703T ETC is not on this code.
