The CRF1100L does not have an airbox. It has two, one on each side of the parallel twin, and each holds its own element: two elements per machine, not one. Order out of habit from a single-airbox bike and you come up one short. Sprint Filter lists PM204S as the P08 element for both positions on the Africa Twin and Adventure Sports — dry woven polyester, cleaned rather than thrown away. Two airboxes do not wear at the same rate

Two elements on one engine do not collect dirt at the same speed. The intakes sit at different points on the bike and draw slightly different air, and on a machine that genuinely leaves the tarmac the gap widens: a rutted trail throws dust unevenly, and riding behind someone loads one flank harder than the other. Judge each element on its own — the grey one in your hand tells you nothing reliable about the one still in the other airbox.

Where the P08 stops being the right medium

Honda sells this machine as one that leaves the road, and the more you do that, the more the medium matters. At 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec the P08 is built for tarmac, gravel and hard-packed ground, holding back 93.13 % of 100-micron particles against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton. Sand and deep dust are another problem, and the same fitment exists as PM204T12, a 7 µm nonwoven passing 560 l/m²/sec. That is a swap, not a step up: retention is bought with flow, and only where the air justifies it.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air does most of the work: apply it to the clean face and push the dirt back out the way it came in. Heavier soiling comes out with warm water and a mild dish soap, rinsed until clear. Keep heat away — hairdryer, exhaust or flame — and never refit a damp element; let both dry in still air. That is the whole routine for PM204S, which is rated for the life of the motorcycle rather than one interval.
