Thirteen Hundred and Fifty Cubic Centimetres
KTM enlarged the LC8 and gave it CAMSHIFT variable intake timing, producing 190 hp with markedly better low-rev behaviour than the 1290 managed. The two cam profiles switch mechanically under load, which is a more elegant solution than it sounds.
A Revised Chassis
New steering geometry, a repositioned swingarm pivot and a reworked subframe. The 1390 is not a rebored 1290 and the difference is apparent within a corner to anyone who has ridden both.
Aligned Clamp Geometry
The two clamp bolts sit on a line square to the bar, matching KTM's factory Brembo arrangement. A bike on its standard front brake takes this drilling; one with an aftermarket radial cylinder may not.
A Very New Model
The 1390 reached dealers in 2024 and the aftermarket around it is still forming. Components engineered for the bike rather than adapted from the 1290, which differs electrically, are worth taking while the choice remains narrow.
Where the Cost Was Not Spent
KTM put the budget into the engine, the frame and the electronics. The switch housing is the same kind of moulded assembly it has fitted for years, and on a motorcycle otherwise this current it is the component that dates the cockpit.
Sealed Elements
Contacts sealed inside a body milled from one billet. A naked bike takes rain directly at road speed, and there is no moulded joint here for the water to work into over several winters.
Black Anodised
One finish, through the surface. Against the 1390's orange frame and dark bodywork it belongs, and a knock dulls it rather than leaving a bright scar.
