Since the first Monster of 1993, Ducati's naked bike has been built around a simple idea: a tank, a seat, a trellis frame and an engine left in full view. The Monster 1200 of 2014 carried that idea over to the big liquid-cooled Testastretta twin, and its engine is still the centrepiece whenever the bike is parked. Every visible part of it adds to the picture, down to the oil filler. Accossato's FP004 is an aluminium oil filler cap for the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2017, CNC-machined, anodised in eight colours and threaded M20x2.5.

Construction and Material Quality
The FP004 starts as aluminium, is machined on CNC equipment and then anodised; the anodised layer carries its colour. Eight colours are offered, and on the Monster 1200 each reads differently: titanium and black blend into the engine, silver brightens it slightly, while red, gold, orange, blue and green make the cap a deliberate detail. The thread is M20x2.5, the size Accossato quotes for this cap, and according to Accossato other motorcycles with the same cap size can use it as well.
Among Hundreds of Monsters
At a big Ducati gathering such as World Ducati Week at Misano, Monsters stand in long rows, and owners walk along them looking at the details that make each one different. A small anodised part is one of the ways an owner's taste shows. The ride to such an event is often long, so the oil check comes first. Do it at home the day before, on a cold engine and with the Monster 1200 positioned exactly as its owner's manual describes, and top up there if necessary. If you fit the FP004 at the same time, clean the area around the filler before opening it so that no dirt can fall into the engine, check the thread and the sealing face, and turn the new cap in by hand until it seats, without force. Keep the original cap at home. On the way, at the first fuel stop, take a quick look at the filler and the casing beneath it: dry is what you want to see. Then the only thing left to do is find a space in the row.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP004 for the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2017; for later years its list shows no oil cap for this model, so check the thread of your cap if your bike is newer. The cap is identified by its M20x2.5 thread, and we also carry it for the Monster 1200 S, the Monster 821 and the Hypermotard 950. Accossato makes three more caps for the Monster 1200: the FP007 for the clutch master cylinder, the TS003 for the front brake reservoir and the TS012 for the rear.
Road Approval
Since no German ABE or test mark is available to us for the FP004, we list it for use in racing and competition.
