DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Yamaha XT250 is not a trials bike, but its soft, tractable engine and manageable size make it a good companion in the kind of terrain where trials riders feel at home: stepped rock, tree roots and stony gullies taken at walking pace. There the clutch is the most important control on the bike. Accossato's C7160 brings a long four-finger blade to the XT250 of 2009 to 2022. The lever is machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, and its blade is joined to the base so that a fall can fold it forward rather than break it.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato began in 1969 in Moncalieri near Turin as a maker of competition motorcycles, and it still machines its levers in Italy. The C7160 is cut on CNC equipment from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, with strength, low weight and reliability as the qualities the company wants from it. The lever is built from two parts: a dark base on the pivot at the clutch perch and a blade in black, blue, gold or green, with a joint between them that lets the blade fold. The blade is long, with room for four fingers, which gives fine control when the clutch has to be slipped for long stretches.
Walking Pace Over Stones
In trials-style terrain the throttle is held almost still and the clutch does the talking. To climb a rock step, the XT250 approaches in first gear at a crawl; the rider stands with knees bent, lets the clutch out just enough for the front wheel to meet the step, then adds a touch more drive as the rear tyre follows. Between obstacles the lever hovers at the friction point, feeding the engine's pull to the rear wheel in small amounts so that the tyre grips instead of spinning on smooth stone. A long lever that the whole hand can work helps here, because slow sections can go on for minutes.
The price of riding this slowly is the occasional topple. When the bike stops on a rock and the foot finds nothing solid, it goes over sideways, and on stony ground a lever that lands awkwardly can snap. The C7160's joint gives its blade a way out: it can fold forward rather than break, so there is a fair chance the XT250 comes back up with a clutch that still works. Not every fall is that kind, and a sharp rock can still damage the lever, but for a rider learning to ride slowly over stones, fewer broken parts mean more practice.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the XT250, the C7160 is listed by Accossato for every model year from 2009 to 2022 and takes the place of the stock lever at the original clutch perch. Its counterpart for the front brake is the folding B8161, which covers the same span but is made only in black or blue; those two colours give a matching pair, while gold and green remain options for the clutch side alone.
Road Approval
An XT250 carries road registration, yet with the C7160 fitted it is not approved for public roads, because no German ABE is documented for this lever. Use it off-road.
