DescriptionThe whole story▼
Enduro routes often run along hillsides rather than straight down them, and the trail tilts away towards the valley. On such off-camber ground the KTM 150 EXC, a light two-stroke enduro, is in its element as long as the tyres grip. When they stop gripping, the bike slides towards the low side, and the front brake decides how quickly. On the 150 EXC of 2020 and 2021, Accossato's B8283 takes the place of the standard brake lever. Machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, it has a blade that can fold forward if a slide ends in a fall.
Key Features
- Folding CNC brake lever for the KTM 150 EXC, 2020 and 2021
- Replaces the standard lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade for three fingers
- Anti-break joint allows the blade to swing forward in a fall
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue or orange with a dark base
- No German ABE on file; for off-road use and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's reasons for Ergal 7075 are straightforward: the alloy is among the strongest grades of aluminium, and the company wants levers that are strong, light and reliable. The B8283 is milled from solid by CNC in Italy and made in two parts, a dark base that holds the pivot and the joint, and a coloured blade to choose in black, blue or orange. The blade is short, following Accossato's pattern for the brake side, and meant to be operated with three fingers.
Downhill with the Trail Leaning Away
An off-camber descent asks for a light touch. With the trail tilting sideways and the tyres already working to hold the bike on line, any sudden braking can break the front loose, and once it slides, it slides downhill. Riders stand, look along the trail rather than down the slope, and use the front brake in gentle, even squeezes, letting the rear do more of the work than it would on flat ground. The slower and smoother the inputs, the more grip there is to spare.
Even with good technique, off-camber ground catches everyone sooner or later. The front washes out, the 150 EXC slides and topples towards the valley side, and when that is the right, the brake lever lands on whatever the hillside offers: stones, roots, hard-packed earth. The B8283's joint gives its blade a way out, letting it fold forward instead of taking the full blow at one point. That is no guarantee, but a brake lever that survives means you can pick the bike up, line it up with the trail again and carry on down with full control of the front wheel.
Fitment and Compatibility
Only two model years of the KTM 150 EXC, 2020 and 2021, appear in Accossato's listing for the B8283, which replaces the lever on the original front brake master cylinder. The clutch side has the folding C7283 for the same years, available in red as well, while the brake lever is limited to black, blue and orange. Riders of other 150 EXC model years will not find this lever listed for their bike.
Road Approval
The B8283 has no documented German ABE. A 150 EXC is usually registered for the road, but with this lever fitted it is not approved for public roads; the lever is intended for off-road terrain and competition.
