DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 21067-12 is a shock absorber spring rated at 56 N/mm, 220 mm long with a 51 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Öhlins part number 21067-12
  • 116 mm of usable stroke
  • Inner diameter 51 mm
  • Measured spring rate 56 N/mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Free length 220 mm

Why the Rate Holds

Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976. Öhlins machines its own critical components instead of buying them in, and the tolerances are where the money goes. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get.

The Numbers That Matter

At 220 mm free length and 51 mm inner diameter, this spring is dimensionally interchangeable with anything of the same size — the rate is what makes it a different part.

Where This Rate Belongs

Mid rates suit a solo rider on a road-going machine with occasional spirited use. If you are unsure and close to average weight in full kit, this is the sensible starting point. A mid rate balances support under braking against compliance over the surface, which is why it is the usual starting point. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

How a Rear Spring Works

Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters. Two riders 20 kg apart on the same motorcycle genuinely need different rates, not different clicks. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.

Applications

If you are replacing a sagged original, measure its free length first — a tired spring often measures several millimetres short. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork. Ask us with the machine and rider weight and we will tell you which rate in this size to take.

What Fitting Involves

Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork compressed and the spring removed. Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil. Öhlins states an air gap for this application, and that figure is part of the setting rather than a detail.

Road Approval

Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
