DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 04060-60 is a pair of fork springs rated at 60 N/mm, 60 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. Rate decides where in the stroke the fork sits; damping only decides how fast it gets there.

Key Features

  • Inner diameter 46 mm
  • Öhlins part number 04060-60
  • Supplied as a pair
  • Measured spring rate 60 N/mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Free length 60 mm

Why the Rate Holds

The Öhlins part number is stamped on the unit, so its specification can be looked up years later. Shafts are hardened and surface-treated so the seal has a consistent surface to run against. Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips.

Dimensions

Öhlins holds the free length at 60 mm and the inner diameter at 46 mm across this rate range, so moving up or down a rate changes nothing about the installation.

Choosing 60 N/mm

Very firm rates keep the chassis attitude stable when the brakes are used at their limit, at the cost of ride comfort. Track use with sustained heavy braking is the typical reason to go this far. This is the stiff end of Öhlins' catalogue, chosen when fork dive rather than grip is the limiting factor. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

Applications

Selection is by measurement. If the diameter and free length match your fork, the remaining question is the rate. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits.

What Fitting Involves

Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil. Fitting is a fork-oil job: the legs come apart, the springs go in, the oil level is set to specification.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
