DescriptionThe whole story▼
Dropping a STREETFIGHTER 848 in the paddock costs a fork leg if nothing stands between it and the ground. That is what the WAPDU402 is for: 200 g of nylon and Ergal standing between the axle of a STREETFIGHTER 848 and the ground. It is offered in 2 colours: Black, Red. On a STREETFIGHTER 848 from 2011 to 2016 it bolts to the standard locations without modification.
Key Features
- Nylon was chosen over aluminium so the WAPDU402 deforms instead of loading the STREETFIGHTER 848 axle
- The insert changes without pulling the axle out of the STREETFIGHTER 848
- 200 g for the complete WAPDU402 kit
- Covers the STREETFIGHTER 848 across 6 model years (2011 to 2016)
- Metric hardware throughout the WAPDU402, so a STREETFIGHTER 848 workshop needs nothing special
- Black, Red — one WAPDU402 kit, 2 ways to match the STREETFIGHTER 848
- Ergal is the alloy family LighTech also uses for its STREETFIGHTER 848 rearsets
Construction
The shell of the WAPDU402 is a nylon moulding with the LighTech logo screen-printed into it. Inside sits a machined Ergal insert — the same alloy family LighTech uses for load-bearing parts. The design assumes the WAPDU402 will be used, and makes the used part the cheap one.
Why an Axle Slider Works
Protection here is a matter of millimetres — the slider has to reach past the axle nut. On the WAPDU402 the Ergal core takes the load path while the nylon takes the abrasion. The result weighs 200 g and can be rebuilt with a new insert after a fall.
Installation
The WAPDU402 goes onto the STREETFIGHTER 848 with the bike on a stand and nothing dismantled. A 849 cc machine vibrates; check the WAPDU402 fasteners again after the first few hundred kilometres. Colour is the only choice to make — 2 of them, Black, Red, all fitting the STREETFIGHTER 848 the same way.
Compatibility and Installation
The kit is sold for the Ducati STREETFIGHTER 848 and uses that bike's own mounting points. Nothing on the STREETFIGHTER 848 has to be cut; the kit bolts to what is there.
Scope of Delivery
The WAPDU402 ships as a complete axle set for the STREETFIGHTER 848: shells, inserts and the bolts that hold them. The packaging lists the WAPDU402 reference, so a second order for the same STREETFIGHTER 848 is unambiguous.
Approval and Road Use
No approval documentation is included with the WAPDU402. Rules differ by country; in Germany the STREETFIGHTER 848 inspection is where this comes up. Check with your inspection body if the STREETFIGHTER 848 sees public roads. For circuit use the point is moot.
