DescriptionThe whole story▼
The K-Tech 25IDS Open Cartridge Kit transforms the front-end behaviour of the Honda CBR 1000 RR (2012–2019), replacing the OEM internals with a precision-engineered 25mm Independent Damping System that gives you genuine, separate control over compression and rebound — the kind of adjustability that was once the preserve of full factory teams. Hard-anodised aerospace-aluminium construction and super-finished component surfaces set a standard of durability and refinement that the stock cartridge simply cannot match.
Key Features
- 25mm Independent Damping System (25IDS) designed specifically for the CBR 1000 RR's original fork tubes — no modification to the outer legs required
- 24 clicks of independent compression adjustment and 30 clicks of independent rebound adjustment for precise, repeatable setup changes at the trackside or in the workshop
- Increased stroke compared to the original cartridge, unlocking greater suspension travel and improved wheel control over both smooth circuits and broken road surfaces
- Aerospace-grade aluminium construction with hard-anodised, super-finished surfaces for outstanding wear resistance and long service life
- Compatible with the full K-Tech 36-260 spring range — a wide selection of spring rates is available, allowing the system to be matched exactly to rider weight, riding style and intended use
- Professional installation at an authorised K-Tech Service Centre is recommended to ensure correct build height, oil level and click settings
Engineering Detail
At the heart of the 25IDS system is the separation of compression and rebound circuits into fully independent adjustment stacks. On a conventional OEM cartridge, these circuits interact — turning one adjuster affects the other. The 25IDS architecture eliminates that compromise entirely. Each circuit responds only to its own adjuster, which means set-up changes are linear, predictable and easy to reverse. The suggested starting point of 14 compression clicks and 18 rebound clicks, with 8 mm of preload and an oil-and-air cap height of 145 mm, gives you a proven baseline from which to explore the full range of the system.
The hard-anodised finish on the aluminium body is not merely cosmetic. The process creates a surface that is significantly harder than untreated aluminium, resisting scoring from fork oil contamination and wear from the repeated micro-movements inherent in damping. The super-finished valve and shim contact faces minimise stiction, which is particularly important at low shaft velocities — exactly where stock cartridges tend to feel wooden or unresponsive.
Road and Track Use
Whether the CBR 1000 RR is used as a fast road machine or a dedicated track tool, the 25IDS kit adapts to both environments with equal competence. On circuit, the ability to soften rebound independently on a bumpy apex without upsetting the braking platform is a genuine performance advantage. On the road, being able to increase low-speed compression damping for better high-speed stability without creating a harsh ride over surface imperfections is equally valuable. Springs must be ordered separately from the K-Tech 36-260 range — selecting the correct spring rate is essential to realising the full potential of the cartridge.
Fitment & Compatibility
This kit fits the following motorcycle:
- Honda CBR 1000 RR — model years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019
Installation by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre is recommended. Springs (36-260 series) are not included and must be ordered separately.
